Are the tips of the leaves dry in the anthurium? Why is this happening and what needs to be done?

The process of yellowing and drying of the leaf in anthurium is inevitable - this is how the plant gets rid of old and unnecessary processes. Then new sheet plates appear.

But what if the tips began to dry en masse even on young leaves? What could be the reason?

What pests can attack this flower? What to do to deal with them? You will learn about this in this article.

Why is this happening and what to do?

Incorrect temperature

Anthurium - a plant from moist hot countries. In winter, the optimum temperature for flower viability is only eighteen degrees, and in summer, despite the flower’s homeland, it is considered normal if the mark on the thermometer does not exceed twenty-six degrees. At the same time, anthurium does not like drafts and easily freezes on them.

If, nevertheless, the leaves began to dry out due to the wrong temperature, urgently need to create anthurium comfortable conditions of detention: move to a colder / warmer place, where drafts can not be reached until the flower - this is carefully monitored.

Important! Be sure to reduce watering if the flower freezes.

Illiterate watering

Having found that the tips dry due to the quality of the water, because of too many salts and heavy metals in it, you need not to hesitate and switch to watering with another liquid with a better composition. The option with insisting water is possible: running water is poured into a bottle and costs two to three days. After a few days, you can use it for watering: the composition improves, the liquid becomes less harmful. The main thing is that the water is at room temperature.

Pests

Anthurium is often “attacked” by mites, scutes or mealybugs. Finding traces of insects on the stem, leaf plate, leaf petioles and sinuses, flower growers treat Anthurium with a soap solution. A gram of nicotine sulfate is added per liter of water. A day after treatment, the plant is washed with clean water. Previously, flower growers take care of protecting the soil from waterlogging during the procedure.

In the fight against parasites, a solution of feverfew, tobacco tincture or Karbofos can also help.

Fungus

It affects not only the leaves, but also the root system of the plant. When dry spots appear throughout the leaf, the anthurium is removed from the pot and its roots are examined (we explained in more detail about the causes of various spots on the leaves of the anthurium here). If they from white / light brown suddenly turned brown or black, and the fabrics became soft and slimy, then the plant is transplanted, but before that it is important:

  • remove soil residues;
  • cut off damaged leaves;
  • trim the roots affected by the fungus to healthy tissues;
  • process slices with powdered charcoal;
  • treat the whole plant with fungicide.

After moistening the soil, excess liquid is poured, and until the next watering, the top layer of the earth is dried.

Pot does not fit

Anthurium, the cause of the drying leaves of which was the lack of free space in the pot, and therefore the lack of oxygen, requires an emergency transplant. The new tank should be two to three centimeters larger in diameter, it is advisable to add more coarse fraction to the soil: cones, pieces of brick or charcoal.

If desired and at the right time, the plant is rejuvenated and planted.

Lack or excess of fertilizer

Violation of the feeding regimen and their amount leads to drying out of the tips of the leaves of anthurium. If this happens, it is necessary to verify the recommended rate and the amount of fertilizer usually given to the plant.

Excess nutrients in the soil cannot be fixed. In this case, the plant is transplanted into poorer soil and strictly follow the recommendations for the use of fertilizing. The disadvantage is offset by an increase in the dose of top dressing.

Not suitable ground

Too dry soil or, conversely, waterlogged can lead to unpleasant anthurium consequencesup to his death. Therefore, it is important to observe the irrigation regime and not to fill the anthurium. It is necessary to remove excess accumulated water from the sump in time, monitor the quality of drainage and dry air.

A rapidly drying substrate indicates dry air. Then they try to moisturize him in every possible way:

  1. sprayed plant water at room temperature;
  2. wipe the leaves (but you can not allow delayed drops on a sheet plate - anthurium can earn a burn);
  3. shade the plant, because the sun's rays, especially direct ones, not only harm the leaves, but also dry the earth.

In summer, it is recommended to place the pot on a wide pallet with moist coarse sand or pebbles. When irrigating water from a tap, the composition of the soil can change, the same effect gives an excess of fertilizer. In the first case, the anthurium is watered with water that has been infused for several days, in the second - it is transplanted and then the amount of dressings given is monitored.

How to care for the “male happiness” flower?

  1. Keep track of the location of the flower under the sun.
  2. Do not leave drops on the sheet plate.
  3. Wipe and spray periodically.
  4. Inspect for pests every few days.
  5. Trim non-viable and diseased leaves.

Anthurium is a whimsical plant, but if you take care of it and react in time to the dry tips that appear, it will delight you with its appearance and shiny, smooth, luxurious leaves for a long time to come.
